Two dead, two injured following head-on crash in Somerset Co.

Pennsylvania State Police say an unidentified 17-year-old and his 20-year-old passenger died in a head-on crash on S. Edgewood Ave. in Somerset Township early Saturday morning.

Officials say the crash happened just after midnight.

Troopers say Braxton Judy, 21, of Somerset was driving southbound on S. Edgewood Ave., just south of S. Center Ave., in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, when he failed to negotiate a right curve at a high rate of speed, crossed into the opposite lane of travel, and struck a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by the teen, head-on.

Troopers say the force of the crash caused the Chevrolet Sonic to travel a substantial distance and the pickup to land on its roof, coming to rest partially on top of the teen's vehicle.

Both the 17-year-old and his passenger, identified as Rachel Maldonado, of Somerset were pronounced dead at the scene. Judy and his passenger, a 21-year-old Somerset man, were taken to UPMC Somerset with minor injuries.

Troopers say Judy and his passenger, as well as the 17-year-old teenager, were wearing seatbelts. However, it's unknown if Maldonado was wearing one.
