Shoppers react to possibly of Toy"R" Us store closures

ALTOONA – National news organizations reported Friday Toys "R" Us may soon liquidate their U.S. stores but the situation remains in flux.

In Blair County, customers are reacting to the possibility of the store closing.

"I'm just really sad," one young shopper said.

"I think it's a terrible idea, it's one of the largest retailers stores, toy stores around,” customer David Cliber said.

"There's not a lot of places to go for a lot of kids toys anymore, there's not a lot of toy stores. This is kind of the last one in the area, so it's sad," customer Briana Finney said.

Many shoppers expressed their concern. Some say this takes away from quality time with their kids and family.

"My grandson and I come here probably once a week to buy stuff, so I think it's a bad idea,” Cliber said.

“It's a good store."

The retailer filed for bankruptcy in September as it struggled with $5 billion in debt.

"I think Amazon is shutting everything down," Finney said.

Many shoppers say although other stores sell toys --, there's nothing like Toys "R" Us.

"Kids love coming in and looking at all the toys, and there's Walmart and stuff, but this (store) is all toys and we don't really have anywhere else to go now," Finney said.

On Twitter the company assured customers that their doors are still open.

"Hopefully they overcome and stay open," Cliber said.

Shoppers in Altoona said they will take advantage of the local store while it is still open.
