BEDFORD, Pa. (WJAC) -- Preparing a five-course meal is something Stefano Ferrari and his staff do every Friday and Saturday night at his restaurant and marketplace, LIFeSTYLE.
But this meal was different. The dining room was filled with people raising money for the Bedford County Players after their theatre was destroyed in a fire Monday.
"I felt like right away there was something that we needed to do," Ferrari said.
Ferrari's own kids have been in a few productions and he says it was a no-brainer to step up and help.
"People are usually happy around food and wine and it was like an easy way for us to help them," Ferrari said.
Within a day, the dinner was sold out. And volunteers, including the player's treasurer, Thalia Fleetwood, helped to prepare and serve the meal.
"This is a perfect example of just what this community is and we’re going to need lots and lots and lots of help, so we're very appreciative," Fleetwood said.
She says there's been an outpouring of support from not only members and the Bedford community, but far beyond.
"I think theater, in general, not just here but throughout all of our communities, is essential to the culture of the nation,” said Ron Growden.
Growden has been associated with the Bedford County Players on and off since 1990.
Now living in Cumberland, Maryland, still working in theater, he wanted to help out his old friends.
"I've met up with people this evening I haven't seen in 20 years and it's just wonderful to see them and I'm proud to be here as well," Growden said.
Over good food and wine, this is just one fundraiser to help an organization get back on its feet.
"From the moment that everybody knew, we were surrounded by just all the well wishes and anything they could do to help, so we're very grateful because we can't do it without them," Fleetwood said.
Thirty-two people attended the fundraiser. Ferrari expects to donate around $2,200 to the players from the night's proceeds.
