Windber Woods retirement community celebrates grand reopening

WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — A senior living and retirement community in Somerset County celebrated a grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday. Several upgrades were made to the Winber Woods Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center. Caring Health Systems came in to revamp the center's operations. The center features a 27-acre campus with multiple levels of care, including rehabilitation services, long-term nursing and care in advanced nursing areas. Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett delivers toys to Northern Cambria family displaced by fire

NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. (WJAC) — Cleveland Browns Defensive End Myles Garrett made a stop in Steelers country Tuesday to visit a family who lost everything in a Northern Cambria fire last month. The fire broke out April 3 near the corner of Philadelphia Ave. and Cottonwood Street, displacing two families. One of those families was the Abrams family who had just welcomed a new baby. Former prison guard gets probation for sex with inmate

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A former guard at a Pennsylvania prison has been sentenced to nine months of probation for having sex with an inmate while she was out on work release nearly a decade ago. Jeffrey Staff was one of seven guards to be charged with sexually abusing inmates at Lackawanna County Prison. He pleaded no contest to official oppression and was sentenced Thursday. MADRID (AP) — A bullfighter was fatally gored in Spain in an eastern town the first professional matador to be killed in the ring in more than three decades. Victor Barrio, 29, was pronounced dead late Saturday by a surgeon at the Teruel bullring. Barrio was first gored in the thigh by the 1,166-pound (530-kilogram) bull's left horn and his body was flipped over. 1 injured in crash involving tanker truck along Route 322

UPDATECENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — According to state police in Centre County, one person was injured in Tuesday's crash along Route 322 near Boalsburg. Troopers say the crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. when the driver of a passenger vehicle crossed the center line and struck a gasoline tanker truck. Investigators say the driver of the passenger vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to UPMC Altoona. State police add that the driver will be cited for traffic violations. [Read More]
