GJSD moving to full remote learning next week due to COVID-19 spread in Cambria County

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Greater Johnstown School District will move to full remote learning next week after state officials recommended the same for all Cambria County schools due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, according to a release from Superintendent Amy Arcurio. Cambria County has entered the second week of being classified as a county with “substantial transmission” of positive coronavirus cases. Annual THON 5K takes place at Penn State to fight against childhood cancer

UNIVERSITY PARK – The 17th Annual THON 5K was held on Pennsylvania State’s campus. Several runners came out to take part in the event to raise money to directly benefit the Four Diamonds at Penn State’s Children’s hospital. Cambria Co. woman sentenced to jail time in healthcare fraud case

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Federal authorities say a Cambria County woman has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud. Prosecutors allege that Florentina Mayko defrauded Medicare and the Department of Health and Human Services by submitting “unnecessary” urine tests, from opioid patients, while working at a medical clinic. Driver charged in deadly construction zone crash in Mifflin Co. was using Oxycodone

Mifflin County, PA (WJAC) — State police say a 71-year-old McVeytown man is behind bars for his role in a deadly construction zone crash last summer near the Huntingdon and Mifflin County line. According to the affidavit, on the afternoon of July 11th, troopers were dispatched to the area of Route 22 and Route 522 for reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Man accused of robbing DoorDash driver in Altoona

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities say a man is behind bars in Blair County after he allegedly robbed a delivery driver earlier this week. Police say just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, 29-year-old Jesus Figueroa allegedly robbed a DoorDash driver on 7th Avenue in Altoona. The driver reported that he believed Figueroa had a knife during the robbery. After he was arrested, police say officers discovered that Figueroa was in possession of a black shard of metal that could have been displayed as a knife. [Read More]
