GARRETT - One of Pennsylvania’s first wind farms is seeing its turbines disappearing.
Eight turbines are being torn down in Somerset County and are being replaced with new technology.
The operators of the turbines, NextEra Energy Resources, said the turbines were decommissioned in December 2015 because they no longer had a customer for the electricity.
“The eight turbines are simply older technology," said NextEra Energy spokesman Bryan Garner. "They were very well maintained, could have continued to operate for years to come but simply there are others ways to generate the power that is more cost effective.

Johns Hopkins doctor placed on leave as alleged anti-Palestinian posts surface
BALTIMORE (WBFF) — The director of pediatric cardiac critical care with Johns Hopkins Medicine is on leave after he allegedly posted hate-filled messages on social media.
Maryland’s Council on American-Islamic Relations said the posts were made by Dr. Darren Klugman.
“We were asked by staff employees at the hospital – physicians who work there – to take action,” said Zainab Chaudry, director for Maryland CAIR.

New charges filed against Johnstown man involved in kidnapping, killing of Indiana Co. man
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — According to online court records, new charges have been filed against a Johnstown-area man who authorities say is one of the eight individuals involved in the kidnapping and killing of Indiana County man last fall.
Johnstown police filed charges of simple assault and harassment against 20-year-old Thomas Rivera stemming from an alleged domestic incident in September of 2021.
According to the affidavit, Rivera is accused of physically assaulting a 15-year-old girl during an argument at a residence along Gregg Ave.

One man dead after driving through guide rail in Westmoreland County
One man is dead after driving through a guide rail and then going down an embankment in Rostraver Township Friday morning, state police said.
According to a press release, Joseph Troyer, 35, was traveling in the left lane east on I-70 west of State Route 51 around 7:45 a.m. State police said Troyer turned across the right lane of travel and drove through a guide rail.
The press release states that Troyer then drove down a steep embankment and struck a tree on the passenger side, causing the vehicle to flip over on its roof.

Altoona police investigate theft at laundromat

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Altoona police are investigating a burglary that happened at a laundromat in June.
Police have released surveillance photos of two men they say stole about $300 from the business June 26.
According to police, the two men damaged a coin machine at Wishy Washy Washhouse on 6th Avenue and stole the coins.

Authorities in Calvert County, Maryland are releasing new details about the disappearance and death of a prominent DC-area photographer, whose remains were discovered earlier this month near a home in Brown Township, Mifflin County.
Police say investigation led to the arrest of 47-year-old Brandon Holbrook, of Reedsville, who is charged with murder in connection to the disappearance of 51-year-old Joseph Anthony Shymanski.
