Man dead after officer-involved shooting in Roaring Spring

UPDATE: According to police, the man who died in an officer-involved shooting Friday has been identified.

State police said in a release that 49-year-old Todd Messner from Three Springs died after police say he turned toward officers while displaying a firearm, resulting in police action.

An autopsy is being completed Saturday and police say more information will be released when it becomes available.

UPDATE: State police say one man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Roaring Spring Friday.

According to state police, just after 4 p.m., Blair County 911 received multiple calls about a suspicious person approaching people in the 7500 block of Woodbury Pike.

Callers reported that the man was "acting very strange with people and not making sense," according to state police.

A Roaring Spring police officer located the man at which point police say the man displayed a firearm and began to turn toward the officer.

That's when police say the officer shot the man who was later pronounced dead on the scene by the Blair County coroner.

An autopsy is scheduled for noon Saturday.

Police say more information will be released next week.
