Individual charged for causing multi-vehicle crash on Atherton Street

Authorities in State College say a local resident is behind bars after intentionally driving through a busy intersection and causing a multi-vehicle crash on South Atherton Street Tuesday morning.

According to the criminal affidavit, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of South Allen and South Atherton Streets, just after 10 a.m., for a report of a multi-vehicle crash.

Police say, according to witnesses, a blue Mazda CX-5 was seen driving along South Atherton Street in the wrong direction.

Authorities say the driver drove through the intersection, colliding with three separate vehicles.

According to one of the crash victims, the driver "plowed" through the intersection at a high-rate of speed.

Police say two of the three crash victims were treated on scene for minor injuries.

Investigators say the driver of the blue Mazda, identified as 28-year-old Letra Ashley Renninger, was taken into custody by responding officers.

Police say Renninger admitted to intentionally driving into oncoming traffic, stating "I don't give a [expletive] anymore."

Renninger is being held at the Centre County Prison on multiple charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief, according to online court records.

Authorities say Renninger's bail was denied for public safety reasons.
