'I was hurt!' Community reacts after man shoots, kills Bald Eagle near Pittsburgh

Neighbors are devastated after someone shot and killed a Bald Eagle near Pittsburgh.

Now, authorities say charges are pending against the suspect.

"I mean why would you do that? That bird doesn't do anything to humans."

This image of the Bald Eagle, who many watched soar here, upset and ignited the Mount Pleasant Township community.

"I was hurt. I was hurt."

Police chief Matthew Tharpe says social media shares showing the white SUV seen near where the Bald Eagle was shot led to a man from the area who the game warden says confessed to "all aspects of the crime.”

“The person ended up surrendering, I believe, because of all the social media shares."

Police wouldn't elaborate on the specifics, but officials did say that when they took the Bald Eagle's body from the field to a nearby vet, the bird was x-rayed, and the veterinarian confirmed the Bald Eagle had been shot and a round was still inside the bird.

A crime many who live nearby can't understand.

"They’re just majestic birds, they're beautiful. They're absolutely beautiful and to have them here is an honor. I don't want to judge them but I hope that they have a complete change of heart. I really do."
