CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — Five people have been charged with attempted murder after a man suffered a skull fracture during an attack, according to sheriff's officials in Tennessee.
All suspects were arrested over the weekend following the incident that occurred in August 2023, said Carter County sheriff's deputies.
The sheriff's office stated that deputies responded to the Stoney Creek community on August 19, 2023. Deputies found a 29-year-old man who was being treated by Carter County EMS for a head injury.
A family member of the victim told deputies that he had been attacked by several people and a baseball bat, brass knuckles, and a cast iron skillet were used to assault him.
Following an investigation, indictments were issued on May 8, 2024 against the five suspects. Here is the list along with the charges they face:
- Jerry A. Carden Jr., 33, of Elizabethton – conspiracy to commit second-degree murder; attempted second-degree murder; aggravated assault (weapon); tampering with evidence; and filing a false report
- Meesha Brieanne Williams, 32, of Elizabethton – conspiracy to commit second-degree murder; attempted second-degree murder; aggravated assault (weapon); tampering with evidence; and filing a false report
- Kelvin Lynn Bradley Jr., 24, of Elizabethton – conspiracy to commit second-degree murder; attempted second-degree murder; and aggravated assault (weapon)
- Daniel A. Shearl, 19, of Elizabethton – conspiracy to commit second-degree murder; attempted second-degree murder; and aggravated assault (weapon)
- Jeffery Scott Brooks Jr., 21, of Johnson City – conspiracy to commit second-degree murder; attempted second-degree murder; and aggravated assault (weapon)
Their bonds were set at $25,000. All suspects, except for Shearl, have bonded out.
